How to Take the A1/A2 Lithuanian Language Proficiency Exam

Registration

Register for the examination by logging in on the website eksternams.nsa.smm.lt.

You can find all upcoming exam dates in the 2026 exam schedule.

Where to Take the Exam

Examinations can be taken only at the examination center in the municipality where you are residing. Find your nearest center in the list of examination centres.

Exam Fee

The exam fee for 2026 is €52.

What to Bring & When to Arrive

  • Bring a document confirming your identity (passport or ID card).
  • Arrive 30 minutes before the exam.

Exam Format

The exam takes place at the examination center and consists of two parts:

  1. Electronic test β€” assesses reading, writing, and listening skills.
  2. Interview with the examiner β€” assesses speaking skills.

All parts are mandatory.

Reading & Writing β€” 1 hour 30 minutes

Computer-based. The reading section presents short texts such as announcements, letters, and instructions. Tasks include matching information, identifying true/false statements, and selecting the correct text. The writing section requires you to compose a short text (a letter, announcement, or message) and fill in a form.

Listening β€” 25 minutes

Computer-based. You will hear dialogues and monologues, then answer comprehension questions, choose correct answers, or complete a table based on the information heard.

Speaking β€” about 12–14 minutes

Individual interview with an examiner, consisting of three parts:

  1. Self-introduction (~2–3 min) β€” introduce yourself and answer basic questions.
  2. Daily life (~4–5 min) β€” answer questions about everyday topics.
  3. Picture description (~6 min) β€” describe a picture or talk about a given situation.

Results

Results (Passed / Failed) will appear in your account at eksternams.nsa.smm.lt no later than 15 working days from the date of the exam.

Certificate

Within 7 working days of the results being announced, the National Education Agency (NΕ A) issues certificates and sends them to the examination centers by post. The examination center then issues the certificate to you within 3 working days of receiving it.
